How to Create a Calendar Overlay on SharePoint online

This article is about “How to Create a Calendar Overlay on SharePoint online” I will explains how to create and configure calendar overlays in SharePoint.
This solution article will applies to SharePoint online, SharePoint Server 2016, 2013 & 2010, SharePoint Foundation 2013.
So let’s start with small description about set what is Calendar and calendar overlay:
SharePoint calendar: can use a calendar to store team events, including meetings, social events, and all-day events. We can also track team milestones, such as deadlines or product release dates that are not specific to a time interval.
SharePoint calendar overlay: This feature allows users to view the data of several different lists in one color-coded Calendar List. SharePoint calendar overlay colors help us display differences between various kinds of events in your organize.

So let’s start configuring Calendar overlay in SharePoint Online:
  • Open team calendar and select calendars overlay in Manage view sections from calendar ribbon on top of the page, see below screen shot:
  • Once select the above the Calendar Overlay Settings page will come here click New Calendar
  • Type the Name in the name section, select they type calendar is from radio button, calendar overlay settings page, description the Code: color which want to select, Web URL, click on resolve button to get the List and List view, now click on ok.
  • Now it will take us back to team calendar page where you will now see your calendar listed under Additional Calendars, called timings as mentioned name above. On the left hand side of the screen under Calendars in View you will see the calendar overlay you just created, Timings. Below is just demo Calendar so it’s showing empty here if you feed your data like meetings, schedule tasks etc… it will show you in colored way.
